MULTAN: Police claim to have arrested 11 people who stole forest wood in the guise of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials in Rahim Yar Khan. Their four accomplices made good their escape.

According to a handout issued here on Thursday, “the NAB Multan while taking prompt action on information received from Abbasia Forest Sub Division Rahim Yar Khan has ensured registration of FIR No 44/2017 under section 417/511, 148/149, 379/506B of Pakistan Penal Code with Tabassum Shaheed police station of Liaquatpur and arrest of Abdul Waheed, who impersonated a NAB officer, and 10 others through police department Rahim Yar Khan on Wednesday.

“These culprits were actively involved in illegal cutting of forest wood by impersonating and using forged record. They had also affixed a tampered illegal signboard at site,” the handout stated.

It said Ejaz Hussain Kazmi, Akhtar Mehmood, Syed Waseem Abbas and Hammad are at large and police are raiding their hideouts.

“It is also intimated that NAB Multan is vigilant and none of the officers of NAB has direct or indirect relations with any of aforementioned accused persons. NAB is strictly following the chairman’s zero-tolerance policy. This is why NAB is acting promptly and has caused arrest of impersonators,” the handout concluded.
