I WOULD like to draw the government attention to the mess system at girls’ hostels of the Punjab University, Lahore. Students have to pay Rs3,500 at the end of every month whether they take food or not.
Most students here are from humble backgrounds and are not able to pay. Although many girl residents of the hostels have requested the administration for implementing the ‘unit system’ in which students mark their attendance for every meal they take and a fee voucher is calculated for every individual student at the end of every month, but to no avail.
It is unethical that students have to pay for the meals which they have not consumed.
