CHITRAL: One person died and two sustained serious injuries when they were hit by a sow avalanche in Sor Rech village of upper Chitral here on Saturday afternoon. The victims were returning from the adjacent village of Mur Rech when they came under the snow avalanche.

Assistant Commissioner, Mastuj, Mohammad Hayat Shah said when the villagers removed the debris of the avalanche they found the body of Nazuk Wali Shah and two injured persons identified as Qurban Khan and Mohammad Sharif. He said the injured could not be shifted to the hospital as the roads were closed for vehicular traffic due to heavy snow.

Meanwhile, upper parts of Chitral and Lot Koh valley received sporadic snowfall over the last one day. Six inches to one foot of snow had fallen in the areas by Saturday evening.

On the other hand, Booni-Torkhow, Mastuj-Yarkhoon and Mastuj-Laspur roads, which were reopened a few days ago, were again closed owing to heavy snowfall.
