I GOT married in September 2016 in my native city Hyderabad. After Nikkah, I, like any dutiful citizen, immediately opted to get registered by Nadra and acquire a new CNIC for myself and my wife.

The representative at Nadra told us that a document was required from the union council. I approached the UC-1 office in Hyderabad. To my surprise I found it locked. One day I found it open. The UC office informed me that it did not receive papers from Nadra owing to issues with the local government authority/power and the service had been suspended.

UC-1 office representatives say that people visit the office and were even ready to pay extra amount but there was nothing they could do to help. Since then I have not been able to get registered with Nadra.

The authority concerned must resolve the matter as registering one’s marriage is important.
