LAHORE: The Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC), Punjab, has helped a UK-based Pakistani get back Rs6.6m from a man who had embezzled the amount on pretext of setting up a textile unit.

In a handout on Sunday, OPC Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti said Scotland-based Yasir Arafat had filed a complaint that he had given the amount to one Bashir Ahmed for establishing a textile unit in Sahiwal. However, Bashir showed him a loss of Rs5m and later on gave five different cheques to Yasir which bounced. He said the police did not take action despite registration of a First Information Report.

The OPC commissioner said the OPC pursued the case vigorously and ensured repayment of Rs6.6m to Yasir Arafat.
