Basit Ali relieved from women's team coaching duties after alleged brawl

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Sheharyar Khan on Monday decided to relieve Basit Ali of his position as head coach of national women's cricket team.

The PCB chief's decision followed separate meetings with Basit Ali and former cricketer Mahmood Hamid in Karachi following reports of an alleged brawl between the two.

Hamid on Friday alleged that Basit Ali verbally abused him and then slapped him for criticising him on a local TV channel while he was watching a match in the National Stadium.

Although Basit reportedly admitted that he intended to physically harm Hamid, the two have since reconciled.

The PCB chairman, however, clarified that no ban is being imposed on Basit and he is free to pursue future coaching assignments with the PCB or other teams.

" no ban is being imposed on Basit ALI and he is free" is the worst part of implementing a disciplinary action. PCB should ban him and let him appeal to the ban after a minimum of three year ban. Why such a lenient slap on the wrist ? You must change the culture of hooliganism and let people do the time if they commit the crime. I have voiced my concern over and over again but PCB does not head any recommendation.

Why can't he just go. He spews venom always. Talks as if he has achieved more than the greats like Imran khan and Wasim Akram. Associating with people like him drags y'all into bad books further. I wish Pakistan cricket board all the best, I know y'all can do better.

It was most expensive slap by Basit. But then, punishment is still not so severe. Basit should be banned from ever holding post of responsibility, as he cannot control his anger nor can act decently. With the attitude he has, he would malign any post he would hold.
