Justice Saqib Nisar to take oath as chief justice on Dec 31

President Mamnoon Hussain announced Wednesday the appointment of Justice Saqib Nisar as chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) starting Dec 31.

Current CJP Anwar Zaheer Jamali is set to retire by the end of the year. Justice Jamali served the at the post for 15 months since his appointment in September 2015.

Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was born on January 18, 1954 in Lahore and obtained an undergraduate degree in law from University of Punjab.

He practices in civil, commercial, tax and constitutional law and currently serves as a Judge in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

In 1982, Justice Nisar became an advocate of the High Court and advocate of the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1994. He was then elevated as the Judge of the High Court on in 1998 and of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2010.

Nisar has also worked as a part-time lecturer at Punjab Law College and Pakistan College of Law, where he taught Civil Procedure Code and the Constitution.

Hearty congratulations to the Honourable Mr. Jamali for being nominated the next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Ours is an elitist society where the poor get punished on trivialities whereas the powerful get away with anything. It is hoped that the new Chief will make it a point to take regular Suo Moto notice of the petitions of the downtrodden people of the society and provide them with succor they can't get ordinarily. The readers of the lower courts also need to be reined in as many of them are a cause of dishonest dealings going on in the lower judiciary.

I hope a good precedent of ending one's cases is set before Honorable Nasir Sahab is sworn in. Otherwise there is already a huge backlog and Panama matters need not be added to it.

Oh wonderful, since Mr. Nisar practices civil, tax, commercial and constitutional law, and he serves as a Supreme court judge, he should not have any problem figuring out this Panamagate issue and the way these politicians manipulate the tax laws, I pray he uses good judgement and allows the law to be followed according to the constitution, let there be no doubt, AMEEN.
