KOHAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved establishment of the divisional sports complex accessible to the players of whole Kohat division, according to sources.

They said that under the plan the Kohat stadium would be expanded and converted into the sports complex, which would be equipped with all major sporting facilities. The project would cost Rs150 million.

It may be recalled that two years ago former adviser to the chief minister on sports, MPA Amjid Afridi, had announced the complex to be built in his PK-37 constituency, but later it was decided that the complex would be built at a site also accessible to the players from Karak and Hangu districts so they could avail of the facilities.

MPA Ziaullah Bangash had announced a week before that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak would sanction the project in December.

Sports officer says PC-1 of the project has been prepared

When contacted, district sports officer Sikandar Shah said that the communication and works department had prepared the PC-1 of the sports complex by the consultant. He said that the complex would be spread over 133 kanals. Funds for the project have been approved and more funds for expanding its premises would be allocated next year, he said.

The complex would have the jogging track, swimming pool, snooker hall, fitness club, gymnasium and volleyball and basketball grounds besides indoor table tennis, tennis and hostel facilities and a boxing ring.

POLICE OPERATION: A major phase-wise police operation is being launched against criminals in Kohat district and lists of the proclaimed offenders, drug peddlers and smugglers have been finalised.

Chairing a meeting of all circle officers and SHOs in his office, district police officer Javed Iqbal asked them to launch a crackdown with full force again the criminals.

According to a statement issued by the DPO office, the district police officer had ordered the start of operation without delay.

Meanwhile, the people of Junglekhel blocked the Peshawar road on Saturday to protest against the crackdown launched by the local police against drug dealers.

The people came out on the road and burnt tyres demanding immediate transfer of SHO Nazar Abbas who had launched the crackdown against drug sellers in Junglekhel.

The issue erupted when the SHO with a police party raided a shop on reports of presence of drugs there and allegedly started throwing out belongings during search, which infuriated the people.

The shopkeeper called councillors Karamat Shah and Pir Adil Shah and DSP Abdur Rasheed. Speaking to mediapersons, Adil Shah said that they would not rest till transfer of the SHO.

The DSP assured the mob that if found guilty the SHO would be transferred. The DPO later asked the DSP to conduct inquiry into the incident.

POWER FEEDER: Pesco board of directors chairman Malik Asad has said that work on the transmission line from new Alizai feeder will be completed by coming summer, which would solve the problems of power fluctuations and low voltage.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said that the board had been supporting the Pesco management in controlling line losses and recovery of outstanding dues.
