LAHORE: Leaders of the Bar associations and councils on Friday announced joining celebrations of the Lahore High Court’s 150-year anniversary after dispute with the Bench over the role of the LHC’s Supervisory Committee dealing with complaints against lawyers was amicably resolved.

The decision was taken by representatives of the Pakistan Bar Council, the Punjab Bar Council, the Lahore High Court Bar Association and registrar of the LHC at a media briefing after a series of talks.

Both sides reached an agreement that the supervisory committee was an internal committee of the LHC and acted as advisory body for the chief justice on several issues and would remain intact and powers under section 54 of Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973 would be exercised by the chief justice alone in future.

“The supervisory committee shall play no role in this regard against the lawyers.”

It was resolved that the existing reference against Advocate Rana Saeed would be decided by the PbBC and would be taken to its logical end in accordance with law. The council would also withdraw its earlier order regarding suspension of reference sent to it by the LHC.
