Iran may seek to set up naval bases in Yemen or Syria in the future, as distant footholds might be more valuable militarily than nuclear technology, the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces said in remarks published on Sunday.
"We need distant bases, and it may become possible one day to have bases on the shores of Yemen or Syria, or bases on islands or floating (bases)," said General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri, quoted by the Shargh daily newspaper.
"Is having distant bases less than nuclear technology? I say it is worth dozens of times more," added Baqeri, who was speaking at a gathering of naval commanders.

At the time of Raza Shah Pehalvi, Iran wish to be a policeman in Persian Gulf,but that did not happened.Now after long time on feeling relief after lifting of US embargo,and release of funds,before Iran could comfortably stand on it's feet,while riding on Russian shoulders,it starts boosting to have naval bases as far as Yemen & Syria,looks like a child wish.Still today the most powerful and high tech US Navy has edge over all other navies, the international community supports US to ensure that shipping routes remained open, Iran must remain within it's domain, and refrain from pretending like super power.And instead work for bringing peace to the region,rather than expansion of naval power.

@Ths .Nobody can push US Naval out of Arabian Sea,US Navy is there to see all shipping routes remained open,and safeguard US & its allies interest.Russia and China could join this effort, and work together or independently to ensure all shipping carried on without hitch or hindrance. This means no embargo on Iranian ports,no embargo on ME,UAE,ports,and ofcourse the king of ports Shinning Gwadar will enjoy full freedom as most stragedic geographically natural deep water port, already China & Pakistan said to look after all shipping routes to and from Gwadar ,in befitting manner.
