KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Thursday said it would consider suspending trade with India if the situation did not improve soon.
FPCCI president Abdul Rauf Alam said that Pakistan had no compulsions of any sort to continue business and trade relations with India under the current hostile conditions. The entire Pakistani business community, he said, was united to take any decision and given the tense situation in the region, it was not possible to continue trade relations with India.
He pointed out the role of the Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said that it left them with no choice but to promote trade relations with ECO and D-8 countries.

The Kalabagh dam and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) were also facing controversies and losing such opportunities could be damaging for the country, said Mr Alam, adding that the CPEC was a game-changer, but there was little awareness among the business community about the project. He advised the community to work in unison and avoid politics of accusations in order to improve the image of the apex body of trade and industry (FPCCI).
Mr Alam was of the opinion that without making payments of outstanding sales tax refunds to exporters, the country would not progress and falling exports would also not improve.

Earlier FPCCI was in favour of enhancing Indo-Pak Trade,and even at several occasions invited High Commissionet India to attend conferences as chief guest at Federation Office. Ofcourse we can ask India to import more from us,and hence improve our trade deficit .Abandoning the trade will hurt us more,we are importing potatoes,onions,spices,chemicals,vaccines,dyes,colors,cotton,and whatever gets short at home,we immediately place order next door
and get it in short time.We can pick up the threads to improve our bi- lateral relations through more trade,and we can earn great if we allow transit facilities to India against transit fees,our trade deficit will quickly turn positive,but it takes two hands to clap,both the countries can work out steps for mutual benefits .

I am reading all these comments from both sides and thinking that where are we heading to? False ego, false pride and overblown patriotism are bringing us down. Other developed countries lough at us and think that two poor countries for the past seventy years fighting with each other for nothing. The way Indians are commenting on the subject clearly shows that they are really shaken by the suggestion. $2 to 3 billion is a lot, specially for a ' bania ' mentality. These people are dreaming about Afghan trade. When the GATES close, you will get NOTHING from your eastern border. Oh yes, if you want to fly your and Afghan goods from Bombay to Kabul via Iran, it is possible, or may be use your Mars explorer to fly to outer space and then land in Kabul. As far as Pakistan is concerned, this is a blessing in disguise. When CPEC opens they can divert this $2 to 3 B to Chinese products and believe me they are much more superior than Indian products. We are the buyers and a buyer always stands at the top.

There is a difference between India boycott of Chinese goods and this Pakistan trade cutting, .
There are industries in india which is affected by china's low cost things eg.crackers.
If we boycott china's our people benefit
But for Pakistan If you cut trade ties it will hit you hard and a little bit for india
Most of your imports are foods and cotton, the you have to get it it from other countries or through uae.
Which is going to increase cost of import.
Anyone who do this going to hurt hi economy.

Let me tell you, what general Pakistanis are loosing because of bad relations/terrorisms. If relations were good then many of the Pakistanis would be earning handsome money like working in cricket, movies, IT jobs, hospitality industry and easily 10 millions Indians a year would be visiting Pakistan and probably would have made your biggest foreign income earner because of Indian tourists.

Let's look at the trade between countries considered enemies in the world
1) China with US - 123 million imports, 466 billion USD exports
2) EU to Russia - 140 billion Euros , Russia to EU 187 billion.
If Pakistan just focuses on increasing trade with India, Afghanistan, Russia, China, Iran and MiddleEast. We can improve the lives of our people, get out of Debt Deficit for which we beg to IMF, Worldbank .
