LAKKI MARWAT: Two people were killed and three others sustained bullet wounds in a firing incident at a musical concert in Tarikhel village here on Thursday. The incident occurred in the limits of Tajori police station.
Police and local people said that a villager, Rehmatullah, had arranged a musical concert at an open place in the village to celebrate his engagement. They said that a large number of villagers from Tarikhel and adjacent villages had come to watch the event.
They said that three armed men opened fire on their rivals at the event. As a result, two villagers, identified as Yaseem Khan and Sahil Rehman, died instantly while Mohammad Riaz, Obaidur Rehman and Rehmatullah were injured. The bodies and the injured were taken to a local hospital.
The police have registered a case against the attackers under Section 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in Tajori police station.
Meanwhile, district police officer Khalid Hamdani asked the station house officers (SHOs) to launch intelligence-based operations in their respective areas and ensure arrest of all wanted criminals.
He was chairing a meeting, which was attended by the SP investigation, district head of counter-terrorism department and SHOs. The meeting decided to strengthen intelligence sharing mechanism and take action against miscreants.
Mr Hamdani said that the criminals could be taken to task through coordinated efforts. He asked the police officials to ensure security of sensitive installations and that the installed CCTV cameras were functioning.
The meeting took important decisions with regard to enhancing professional capacity of the policemen. The quarters concerned were asked to increase the strength of Elite Force commandos at the police stations.
The DPO asked the subordinate police officials to ensure foolproof security to the people and their properties. He also urged the people to cooperate with police for peace in the area.
