LAHORE: Rafia Haider, an officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, assumed charge of the Punjab Food Authority’s new director (operations) office on Friday after Ayesha Mumtaz went on a paid leave for 104 days.

Ayesha mentioned family reasons, including the health issues of her in-laws, for the leave from Oct 20 to Jan 31.

She had left the charge of her office some days ago. Since the post would have remained vacant for about three and half months, the government appointed Rafia Haider who started work on Friday as new PFA director (operations).

An officer of Pakistan Administrative Services’ 40th Common, Rafia is reported to have spent some time in Faisalabad as assistant commissioner (Sadar). In addition to her duties as AC, she was assigned the job to improve hygiene condition of eateries and food premises in Faisalabad.

On the day of her joining, Rafia Haider checked milk sellers at various exit/entry points of the city and disposed of 4,000 litres of unhygienic milk. She warned the milk sellers of criminal cases if they did not mend their ways.

LWMC: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) deputed its special squad at under-developed locality adjacent to the river Ravi in order to redress their sanitation and waste-related issues by engaging various district departments.

Special squad in coordination with the locals and elected representatives cleared heaps of waste from unattended plots of the area and removed around 10 tonne solid waste, according to an LWMC spokesman.
