JazzCash partners with Tranglo

ISLAMABAD: JazzCash has entered into a partnership with global cross-border digital remittance hub Tranglo, a press release said.

According to this agreement, Tranglo’s global network of money service and remittance providers will now offer international money transfer service to JazzCash users. This move will further facilitate the country’s un-banked population to gain access to banking services.

Visa CEO steps down

SAN FRANCISCO: Visa says CEO Charlie Scharf is resigning in December after four years leading the company. He says that running a company based in San Francisco is difficult for his personal life.

Visa Inc. on Monday named current board member Alfred Kelly Jr. as its president and CEO. He is the former president of American Express Co. Kelly will join Visa on Oct 31, and Scharf will advise him for several months.

Visa shares closed down 30 cents at $82.15. The stock dipped 1.4 per cent in after-hours trading.—AP

McDonald’s to pay $56,500 settlement

BELTON: McDonald’s will pay a $56,500 settlement after a southeast Missouri restaurant manager refused to interview a deaf job applicant.

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday announced the settlement with McDonald’s Corp. and McDonald’s Restaurants. A message seeking comment from the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company was not immediately returned.

The EEOC says a young man who can’t hear or speak applied online in 2012 to work at the McDonald’s in Belton, Missouri. He had previous experience as a cook and cleanup team member at a McDonald’s restaurant in another state.

A lawsuit filed by the EEOC says that when the restaurant manager learned the applicant needed a sign language interpreter for his interview, she canceled the interview, even though the applicant’s sister volunteered to interpret.—AP

Hyundai recalls 84,000 cars

DETROIT: Hyundai is recalling more than 84,000 cars in the US because a wiring problem can cause the front passenger air bag to malfunction.

The recall covers Genesis Coupes from the 2010 to 2016 model years.

The company says in government documents that an electrical connector for the passenger seat air bag sensor can become disconnected. That can cause the air bag to inflate when a child is in the seat or deploy with too little force to protect an adult. Dealers will secure the wiring to make sure it stays connected. The recall is expected to start on Dec 2.
