TANK: A local tehsil nazim, who was arrested along with five associates by Afghan authorities in June after they mistakenly crossed into Afghan territory, were released by Afghan government in Kandahar province and arrived here on Monday.

Haibat Khan, Tehsil Nazim Tank, belonging to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F along with five friends had gone to Quetta during Ramazan where they mistakenly crossed into Kandahar province of Afghanistan via Chaman border on June 22, this year. The Afghan border security guards arrested them on charges of entering the country without any valid documents.

After preliminary investigation at Spin Boldak police station, they were later shifted to Kandahar jail for further interrogation by a special investigation team.

However, using his good offices, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman sent a delegation to Afghan government which succeeded in securing release of Haibat Khan and his colleagues from Kandahar jail. The delegation included Maulana Zikriya, Haji Ramzan and Imran.
