LAKKI MARWAT: District nazim Ishfaq Ahmad Khan Meenakhel on Thursday urged youths to focus on studies to play an effective role in the development of the backward district after joining different professions.

He was speaking during a prize distribution ceremony at the Government Postgraduate College Lakki city, where principal Jalilur Rehman, former Lakki tehsil naib nazim Habibur Rehman Zangikhel, district councillor Shafiullah, PPP leader Din Mohammad and heads of other colleges were in attendance.

The nazim distributed prizes to students, who grabbed top positions in FA/FSc and BA/BSc annual examinations held by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Edification Bannu and University of Science and Technology Bannu, respectively.

He said despite availability of meagre resources, the district government was committed to providing the local residents with basic amenities of life.

Mr. Meenakhel said a comprehensive mechanism had been formulated to resolve the people’s problems on their doorstep.

He said the local government would make all-out efforts to provide a better and comfortable teaching and learning environment in government schools and colleges.

The nazim congratulated high-achievers and asked them to continuing performing well for better future.

RESHUFFLE: District police chief Syed Khalid Hamdani on Friday changed four police officials.

As shown in an office order, Ghaznikhel police station SHO Waheed Noor has been asked to report to police lines, while sub-inspector Akhtar Ali has been made his successor.

Assistant sub-inspector Saboor Khan has been transferred to Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station in Darra Pezu town from the local interment centre.

He replaced ASI Saifur Rehman, who has been asked to report to the police lines.

MEAT SEIZED: The livestock department on Friday seized a large quantity of substandard meat in Lakki City Bazaar.

Director of the department Dr Naseemullah Wazir told Dawn that the seizure was made during a routine inspection of meat shops in the bazaar by a team led by him.

He said the seized meat carried by a man in two plastic bags was brought in from Bannu district and was not fit for human consumption.

Mr. Wazir said the man later identified as Khushdil of Bannu was handed over to the local police for legal action.
