WANA: Gunmen kidnapped four people and set on fire four trucks loaded with apples near Wana, South Waziristan Agency, on Friday.

The unidentified gunmen also took away a car and a truck.

Local officials said that the incident took place near Karkana, about 40 kilometres east of Wana, the administrative headquarters of the tribal agency.

The trucks were transporting apples from Wana to Lahore and the car and the truck were heading towards Dera Ismail Khan.

The officials said the gunmen stopped the vehicles at Karkana and made the four people disembark from the car and the truck.

They then took the four people to an unknown location.

Thick black smoke was seen billowing from the trucks.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

South Waziristan produces fine quality of apples. Harvesting of apples and different vegetables, including tomato, is in progress in the area and more than 150 trucks loaded with fruit and vegetables are on their way to Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and other parts of the country these days.
