THIS is with reference to the article ‘Restructuring the state’ (Sept 5). The writer deliberates on the size of provinces, which he feels were unwieldy, hence major cause of the state’s tribulations.

He states: “On 14th August 1947, except for erstwhile NWFP, all other provinces were made part of Pakistan not because they chose so but because of an arrangement for independence arrived at between Pakistan, India and British government”.

To put the record straight, it may be pointed out that it was only the Sindh Assembly amongst all the provinces of undivided India which passed a resolution on March 3, 1943.

The resolution was presented by G.M. Syed on the lines of the Lahore Resolution in support of Pakistan.

Moreover, on June 26, 1947 the Sindh Assembly, at a special session, decided to join the new Pakistan Constituent Assembly. Thus, Sindh became the first province to opt for Pakistan.
