KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday ignored former captain Shahid Afridi from the 13-member squad for a one-off Twenty20 International (T20I) against England at Old Trafford, Manchester.
Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal were also not included in the roster.
Afridi, veteran of 98 T20Is, lead Pakistan to a disastrous ICC World T20 campaign in India earlier this year. The 2009 champions exited the tournament prematurely after they failed to qualify for the knock-out stage.
The all-rounder subsequently stepped down from captaincy, making room for Sarfraz Ahmed to be stormed in as the T20I skipper.
Opener Shehzad and middle-order batsman Akmal continue to be sidelined, on the disciplinary grounds, by the newly formed selection committee, headed by former Test captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Bowling all-rounder Sohail Tanvir returns to the Pakistani side after a 10-month-long hiatus. The 31-year-old last played for Pakistan in November 215 against England.
Amad Butt, the only uncapped player in the squad, has been drafted into the national side on the basis of his outstanding performances with the 'A' team. The Islamabad United bowler bagged 12 wickets in six matches during Pakistan 'A' tour of England.

If Ahmed Shahzad's batting form was as good as his selfie taking form, then he would be one of the world's best batsman. He wants to be a 'superstar' but not a 'superstar batsman'. I agree 100% with his ouster from the team.

Right decision to drop Afridi , wrong decision to given chance to Sohaib Malik he does not deserve due to his performance in ODI 18 innings his highest score is 28 runs.

Shahid Afridi should have been the captain for T-20 against England. The current poor ODI series performance (without Afridi) proves that he was not responsible for the poor performance in last T-20 WC.

I think it's time for Pakistan to move on and include younger generation and sideline players who have disciplinary issues.
Current English team took almost a year to come good.They were ordinary last summer.
Pakistan needs to invest in new players and will bear the fruit in due time.

Need major changes in the Board , Players should be select strictly based on performance and on merit basis. Board should arrange under - 19 team series very often with and IN (Australia , England , Newzealand and Africa ). Domestic cricket structure need to work from grass roots. 2 diff teams should select one each for shorter and longer formats. Especially bowlers who crosses the age of 30 should not play both forms of cricket. Have to retire in any one format of the game once cross 30. In the ongoing ODI series Riaz and yasir look very dull and tired after playing test cricket.

After Aug 2009, Afridi made 1 fifty in T20I over last 7 years, that is 52* (33 balls) against SL in June 2012. Afridi highest score in T20I is 54 runs (40 balls) in June 2009. Afridi played 90 innings and scored 4 fifties @ 18 runs per inning.
In comparison, Sarfraz made 2 fifties since 2014. One was 76* (64 balls) as opener against NZ in Dec 2014 (it was 2nd T20I for Sarfraz). Sarfraz made another fifty in Asia cup where he made 58* (42 balls) against BD. Sarfaraz played 15 innings and scored 2 fifties @ 29 runs per inning.
But then career strike rate of Afridi (140) is better than Sarfraz (120). With time, Afridi performance is deteriorating while Sarfraz is improving.
Captaincy: Sarfraz has calm head (sometime becomes excited and need to improve) while Afridi seems unfit for captaincy. Of all Pakistani T20I captains till now, Afridi record is worst.

@Kamala: Fawad has better or similar overall '20 overs game' average and SR than Misbah, Azhar Ali, Younis K, A Shahzad, Hafeez, etc ... and overall, he is more reliable batsman than all Pakistani batsmen, including Younis Khan, Azhar Ali or Misbah.
Plus, Fawad is the fittest and probably the best fielder Pakistan has (that means, he saves a lot of runs fielding and rarely drop catches), can also bowl if needed and obviously is one of the best Pakistani batsmen who rotates the strike (that adds runs to total, even if it comes from bat of other batsman in partnership with Fawad). In ODI, fawad SR was higher than any Pakistani players playing as batsmen.
Still, you are right that Fawad is not natural T20I player and is good for Test and ODI (where discrimination keeps him out).
