KARACHI: An angry mob lynched a suspected robber and critically injured another following a robbery attempt during which a shopkeeper was shot at and wounded in the Korangi industrial area on Saturday, police and hospital officials said.

The two suspects stormed a shop at Nasir Jump and opened fire on its owner Shahid Ali when he put up resistance, said SHO Abdul Rasool Siyal.

The incident attracted attention of other shopkeepers and area people who caught both suspects and beat them up severely before handing them over to the police.

They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where one of them identified as Haseeb died during treatment. The man died from head injuries caused by being hit with blunt objects, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the emergency department. The condition of the other suspect, Khawar, who sustained multiple injuries to his head and other parts of the body, was described as critical.
