LAHORE: Dr Junaid Ali Shah was unanimously elected Karachi Hockey Association (KHA) president at a general council meeting in Karachi on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) said here that Dr Junaid had replaced the outgoing president Wasi Jaleel whose political engagements and related foreign tours were hampering his work at the KHA.

Dr Junaid is the son of late Dr Mohammad Ali Shah who served as sports adviser in Sindh government apart from being president of the Sindh Olympic Association.

Since the demise of his father in February 2013, Dr Junaid had been involved in the affairs of Olympian Islahuddin and Dr Mohammad Ali Shah Hockey Academy regarded as one of the best hockey facilities in Karachi wherein players of all ages get regular coaching.

“Hockey circles hope that in his new role as the KHA president, Dr Junaid would succeed in reviving the national game in Sindh capital,” said the spokesman.
