Corps Commander Karachi Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar visited Sindh Rangers Headquarters here today during which he was given a detailed briefing on the Rangers-led operation in the city.

The Corps Commander condemned the violence in the city yesterday, taking strong exception against “those who incited violence through their speeches and the language they used against Pakistan”.

Reviewing the arrests made in the aftermath of yesterday’s events, Lt Gen Mukhtar ordered strict action against those inciting violence in the city. He said the operation against such elements in Karachi will continue till the “menace has been completely eradicated”.

Two media houses were ransacked as activists chanting pro-MQM slogans went berserk on Monday evening after listening to a highly provocative speech of their London-based chief Hussain and resorted to a violent protest, firing and arson.

At least one person died and a dozen others were wounded in an attack reminiscent of the May 12 assault on a private channel, drawing condemnation along with directives for immediate arrest of culprits from the army chief.

The ‘operation’ against criminal elements in Pakistan’s commercial hub was initiated back in September 2013 after the federal cabinet empowered Rangers to lead a targeted advance with the support of police against criminals already identified by federal military and civilian agencies for their alleged involvement in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.
