ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday removed Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Maroof Afzal from his position and posted him as additional secretary Establishment Division.

Mr Afzal had applied for a two-month leave recently and, according to sources, had not wanted to come back to his former office.

Meanwhile, Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Secretary Hassan Iqbal was given additional charge as CDA chairman for three months.

According to sources, Mr Afzal was facing difficulties with the CADD ministry. The sources said the former chairman was also exhausted by the ongoing tug-of-war between CDA officials and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad.

Mr Afzal was appointed CDA chairman in December 2013 and for various reasons, the civic agency could not make significant progress during his tenure, and except for the construction of a portion of the Islamabad Highway Project, no mega development project was undertaken by the CDA in the last three years.

CDA has also made headlines for corruption in its land directorate and the former chairman could also not increase CDA revenue from its own resources, other than selling plots.
