ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allowed the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to hire new teaching staff for 422 educational institutions under its administrative control.

The schools have been facing shortage of teachers for the last many years, but the FDE has made no attempt to recruit the staff through competitive process.

During the last few years, particularly during PPP government, hundreds of teachers were hired on daily wage basis, without following any recruitment process which deteriorated the quality of teaching.

Despite hiring of daily wage teachers, the schools were still short of more than 1,500 teaching staff.

According to sources, the Prime Minister Office has allowed the ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division to make fresh appointments in FDE run educational institutions.

MNA Marraym Aurangzeb, who along with Maryam Nawaz, is supervising Prime Minister Education Reforms Programme, while speaking to Dawn on Tuesday confirmed that the Prime Minister Office has given a go-ahead to the recruitment process in educational institutions. “I think there are around 2,300 teaching posts, and we will start recruitment from next month,” she said.
