Learn different languages

Published August 6, 2016

Learning languages is fun but it also gives a person a huge plus point when one communicates with the natives of that particular language. We hardly know more than three languages in our part of the world and some of you know not more than two.

But before you formally start learning a language from any institute, let us try and learn languages in a literally fun and creative way on Ba Ba dum — the site that focuses on language learning through illustrations and cartoons.

Ba Ba Dum is a website that hosts five-word games with up to 1500 words in 18 languages (English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Lithuanian, and more) and you can choose the language by just clicking on the country’s flag in the lower right corner.

The games include: match images to a spoken word, fill in the blanks, or multiple choice. For instance in one game, you are shown four different pictures, and then a word in a particular language (that you already chose), you have to choose one out of the four pictures that corresponds to the word spoken.

Another game depicts one picture and shows four possible answers for the correct word. The next game simply speaks the word and you have to match the voice with the corresponding picture. The third game shows a picture and forces you to spell the word yourself. Other games on the site teach pronunciation and difficult-to-learn characters in languages such as Japanese and Russian.

The website offers audio options on many of the interactive links, which makes this site an ideal for non-readers (even kindergartners) and, most importantly, it is useful for gifted students looking for individual challenge.

Kids can play without registration. But registration allows them to save their progress and compete to earn the highest scores in each activity. Overall, the site is both entertaining and informative, and it makes learning a new language (or languages) fun, exciting.
