BADIN: The 9th Civil Judge (south) at Karachi, Muneer Ahmed Khaskheli, was on Thursday booked by the Model police of Badin for deliberately hitting and injuring two policemen with his car at a checkpoint on Badin-Tando Bago Road late on Wednesday evening. Two FIRs (193/16 and 194/16) were registered against him and his two unknown companions on the complaint of Muneer Ahmed Mandhro, one of the two injured policemen.

The complainant stated in the FIRs that he along with his colleague, Abdul Razzaq Khaskheli, while on duty at the checkpoint a little after midnight when they stopped a car (GSA 973) and asked its three occupants about their identity.

During the checking, three bottles of liquor and about half kilogram of bhang was found in possession of one of the occupants.

One of the suspects, Muneer Khaskehli, angrily argued with them [the policemen] and later accelerated the car deliberating hitting and injuring them. He stated that the suspects escaped leaving behind their car.

Model SHO Ibrahim Jatoi later told Dawn that the car was impounded and the contraband found in it was seized.

Soon after the incident, the injured policemen were taken to the Indus Hospital from where Razzaq Khaskheli was referred to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital due to his serious condition.

Badin SSP Abdul Qayoom Pitafi, speaking to Dawn, said that raids were being conducted to arrest the civil judge and the Sindh police chief, A.D. Khowaja, was requested to take up the issue with the registrar of the Sindh High Court.

“Nobody is above the law,” said the SSP.
