First look of Disney’s Polynesian princess movie

Finally, Disney has a Polynesian princess! Recently, Disney released a teaser trailer for Moana, offering fans an exciting first look at the upcoming movie about a Polynesian princess who traverses the Pacific Ocean.

In the clip, we are introduced to the film’s titular character (voiced by newbie Auli’i Cravalho), a spirited 16-year-old looking to learn more about her royal ancestors’ past, as well as her pet pig Pua and her demigod BFF Maui (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson). The trio fearlessly embark on a sea voyage in an effort to learn more about themselves.

The computer-animated film also explores the deep-rooted history of the South Pacific, which animators Ron Clements and John Musker placed above all else while researching for the project. The artists travelled to multiple Polynesian islands to gain a better understanding of the culture before putting the final touches on Moana’s narrative. Moana hits the theatres on November 23, 2016.

Anna and Elsa are back!

Anew instalment in the Frozen franchise is in the works! The spinoff story, which is titled Frozen Northern Lights, will span a variety of formats, including new books and TV animated shorts.

“Natural phenomenon meets cultural phenomenon in this all new story, Frozen Northern Lights,” Disney Publishing Worldwide executive vice-president Andrew Sugerman said in a statement. “We’re excited to share this new adventure and offer fans great new ways to connect with their favourite characters, thanks to a host of related books, digital games and activities.”

The new story will kick off in July with the release of the first novel, Disney Frozen Northern Lights: Journey to the Lights. Disney Channel will air a series of four new animated shorts — featuring the voices of original cast members Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), Josh Gad (Olaf) and Jonathan Groff (Kristoff) — from the LEGO Group in the fall.
