KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, claimed to have killed two suspected gangsters in an ‘encounter’ in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The paramilitary force conducted an intelligence-based operation against a group of suspects hiding in a building in Nawa Lane, Lyari. On seeing the Rangers, the suspects tried to escape by opening fire on the raiding party. During the exchange of fire, two suspects were killed but two others escaped through rooftops, said a paramilitary force spokesperson.

The Rangers claimed to have seized automatic weapons, ammunition and drugs from their custody.

Kalakot SHO Ayaz Khan identified the dead as Mohammed Waqar and Waqas Iqbal, belonging to the Wasiullah Lakho gang of Lyari. The officer said they had no previous criminal record. The Rangers also conducted targeted raids in Orangi, Shah Faisal and Jamshed Town and arrested eight suspects, including two alleged hitmen affiliated with ‘MQM(A)’s Terrorist Wing’, said the Rangers spokesperson.
