KARACHI: Apparently taking cue from the meeting presided over by the army chief at Corps V a day earlier, where it was decided that action would be intensified against the ‘militant wings’ of political parties, the police on Monday conducted raids for the arrest of alleged hitmen of a ‘political party’ and detained a suspect.
“As part of the ongoing raids against hitmen belonging to a political party, a suspect identified as Amjad Ali Alam has been arrested by the Federal B Industrial Area police and a hand grenade and a pistol have been seized from him,” said Central SSP Muqadas Haider.
The held suspect, a resident of C Area of Liaquatabad, was “affiliated with a political party.”
During initial investigation, he has disclosed that he was involved in the killing of police officials and other persons.
He had allegedly killed sub-inspector Abid Hussain and wounded constable Gulzar in the Nazimabad police limits of 2013 (FIR 54/2013).
He was involved in the killing of police constables Mohammed Siddiq and Rahat Ali and injuring of SI Mir Muhammad, also in Nazimabad in 2013 (FIR 339/13). The held suspect was also arrested on charges of snatching an SMG rifle from a policeman by the Paposh Nagar police last year
