KARACHI: The city sizzled as the mercury touched the mark of 42 degrees Celsius on Sunday, while the meteorological department forecast that some rainfall on Monday would bring down the temperature.

Responding to queries by Dawn, a met official said that the minimum temperature recorded in the city on Sunday was 30 degrees Celsius and humidity — amount of moisture in the atmosphere — was 36 per cent as lesser sea breeze entered the city.

He said the weather in the metropolis on Monday was expected to remain hot with chances of dust-thundershower / rain with gusty winds, keeping the maximum temperature between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius.

The entire province, he said, remained in the grip of heatwave. Maximum temperature recorded on Sunday was: Dadu (45 degrees Celsius); Rohri and Jacobabad (44.5).

He said scattered rains / dust-thundershowers with strong gusty winds were also expected in Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Sukkur and Larkana divisions on Monday.
