RAWALPINDI: Police have identified one of the bodies found along the bank of a nullah in Gorakhpur on Adiala Road on Monday.

The body has been identified as that of Bilal Ahmed, a taxi driver from Jatli. The bodies of the woman and child found with his body are yet to be identified.

The murderers had fired three bullets into Bilal’s mouth and had smashed the skulls of the woman and child with an axe after they were killed. An unregistered motorcycle and a purse containing cosmetics were found lying by the bodies.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ghias Gul said: “Bilal lived in Rawalpindi and drove a taxi to earn a livelihood but the woman and child were not his wife and son because Bilal’s family live in his village.”

He said the police were looking for clues, suspects and motives behind the murders which, he added, were committed under extraordinary circumstances.

“Bilal’s family identified him from a photograph shown to them by the police investigating officer,” SP Ghias said.

The police identified Bilal by tracing the dealer who sold the motorcycle found near the bodies on Monday.

“Though the bike was not registered, the receipt helped the police determine that Bilal had made the purchase,” SHO Inspector Yar Mohammad told Dawn.

“We do not know who committed the murders and what their motive could have been but it will not take a lot of time to identify the woman and child,” he said.

Though no mobile phones were found at the crime scene, the police have obtained Bilal’s mobile number from his family and will be looking at his call records in order to identify the woman and child.
