KARACHI: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested the prime suspect in the mysterious murder of a woman whose son was reportedly found near Do Darya before being brought to the Edhi Centre some two weeks.

The suspect, Rizwan Ayaz Khan, was arrested outside the metropolis, said SSP (investigations) of Karachi-South Adeel Husain Chandio. He said the suspect was being brought to the metropolis. He would be grilled to unearth the motive for the killing of Haleema, the officer added.

His wife, Sonia, who was also a suspect in the murder case, has already been in police custody. Haleema was found dead in her flat in Delhi Colony on May 31. The corpse was partially decomposed. There was no apparent injury mark on her body. The cause of death was reserved for chemical and histopathological report, officials said.

The suspect, Rizwan, had abandoned the small boy, Abdullah, at the Edhi Centre in Mithadar, claiming that he found him near Do Darya. Later, it transpired that the abandoned child was the son of Haleema.

On Sunday, a man approached the Edhi Foundation and claimed that Abdullah was his son. Chaudhry Iqbal asked the Edhi Foundation to hand over the child to him, but he was advised by the organisation to approach the judiciary for that purpose. So far, the ‘father’ has not filed any application in any court.
