LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the light of recommendations of the Special Monitoring Unit (Law and Order) has directed for creation of the post of a woman DIG for gender crimes.

According to a press release, the DIG Gender Crimes will be empowered to ensure protection and rehabilitation of women victims of violence across the province and ensure delivery of justice without unnecessary delay or moral judgments.

Special Monitoring Unit Senior Member Salman Sufi said the DIG would collaborate with the woman superintendent of police deputed at the Violence Against Women Centre headquarters in Multan to ensure justice to women victims of violence.

Earlier, female police officers had to receive clearance and permission from male SHOs before commencing any rescue operation for women victims or curbing crimes of violence against women due to which action in majority of such incidents was delayed.
