According to data from the Rocky Mountain Institute, the benefits of using smart technologies can influence the bottom line when it comes to energy consumption in the workplace. Not only do smart appliances — such as thermostats that control the timing of air conditioners and water heaters — increase the comfort of employees (thereby improving productivity), they can cut a business’s electricity bill by up to 40pc.
