PESHAWAR: A nine-year-old boy was raped allegedly by a relative in Hashtnagri area here on Thursday, police said.
The victim was brought to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar in a critical condition, and is now recovering.
The incident took place in Peshawar's Hussainia Mohalla, within the jurisdiction of Hashtnagri Police Station.
A First-Information Report was registered against a suspect, who the boy claimed was his relative.

The victim told police he was playing in his neighbourhood when his relative called him inside his house. After the boy went inside, the suspect subjected him to rape.
Police raided the alleged rapist's house late in the night, only to discover that he managed to flee.
Medical examination of the victim was underway, said the police.
A report launched by the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child earlier this month stated that 10 cases of child sexual abuse took place every day in the country in the year 2015. Meanwhile, nine people were executed for rape in Pakistan between January and May 2015.

We need an open dialogue on the issue of child sexual abuse in Pakistan. It is an epidemic and the cases that come to light are just tip of the iceberg. There is no shame in admitting this. Unless we are willing to look at our society honestly and openly these atrocities will continue unabated. Child abuse happens everywhere unfortunately and is a horrendous crime but what is worse is pretending it doesnt exist. We create endless victims that way and these victims are damaged for life and also become abusers in many cases. The political will to deal with this issue is non-existent in Pakistan as our leaders have other 'priorities'. Having laws is not enough, they need to be implemented and the courts need to convict. Also, we should have sex education in schools and a sustained campaign is needed. That is the only way to deal with this.

Condemn this heinous crime in strongest possible words. The perpetrator should be brought to justice. The victims should be encouraged to speak up, this will help start a debate on the issue which deeply exists in its uglyest forms in our so society under the multiple layers of stigma attached to it.

Case after case of child abuse is reported in the press but unfortunately, there is little or no reaction from the govt. There is a need to take strong action against those committing such heinous crimes. Social ills can be checked through spread of education and moral values in the society. Poverty, ignorance and corruption provide convenient breeding ground for all kinds of crimes and moral degradation. We need to launch a collective campaign involving the govt, scholars and the media to achieve the goal of cleaning our country from all evil.

Such news should not be reported by the prestigious Medias more specially
by so trusted and popular Newspapers like DAWN. It only hurts the right minded readers and undermines the very standard of the publishers. The law of the land is already there to punish the culprits. Publicity of such obnoxious news and vulgar pictures have become daily routine because of which now we can not have many newspapers nor open many TV channels at our homes not to let our family members and children see such dirty items. This is how the higher moral values of humanity and of our social order are under attack by the storm of vulgarity from all sides.
