Younis ready to participate in Pakistan Cup after ‘apology’

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa skipper Younis Khan contacted Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan on Monday to apologise for his misconduct during the ongoing Pakistan Cup.
Younis quit the tournament and left Faisalabad, the host city of the Pakistan Cup, last week in protest against ‘substandard umpiring’ in the event.
The former Test captain, who is also one of PCB's advisor on cricketing affairs, expressed willingness to participate in the remainder of the tournament. He said, “It was obligatory for me to participate in the premier ODI domestic tournament for the larger interest of the promotion of the game in the country.”
Younis had criticised match officials after his side’s loss to Misbah-ul-Haq's Islamabad side. The veteran cricketer also showed his displeasure after KPK’s close win against Shoaib Malik-led Punjab on Friday.
The right-hander was subsequently fined 50 per cent of his match fee for his comments after which he left the tournament.

In sports and without any exception in cricket the decision of umpires and match referees is binding on players. To dissent or disobey or even to question a decision is not for the players. YK has played for so many years at the highest level and is aware of the rules governing the game of cricket. YK must refrain from emotional outbursts and use proper channels after a tournament to point out errors and lower standards of umpiring. YK's decision to quit the tournament was a poor choice. His recent move to take a 360 degree turn and play again in the interest of the game is at best pathetic.

Good decision for Pakistan cricket. PCB should now suspend the concerned umpire for biased umpiring in the tournament. The umpiring standard in domestic cricket is very bad

The crooked/corrupt umpires should be taken to task. All matches must be recorded and any complaints from captains must be properly held. Corruption must stop at all level. YK welcome back after having the spine to call spade a spade.

PCB needs to apply check and balance on umpires in domestic cricket. It's need to be corrected. Umpires are not angel . We have examples of Nadeem Ghauri and Asad Rauf

Another controversy to add to the innumerable ones plaguing the temperamental Younis Khan's playing career. Instead of being a role model for youngsters, he wants to show his importance and how big a name he is through his outbursts. While he has chalked up many records for himself and Pakistan, I wonder whether he will be remembered more for these achievements or for his frequent brushes with the establishment. It takes a lot of gloss off his career.

Please, he is not an average batsmen. Please refer his statistics. He is amongst the top 5 best batsmen of Pakistan, along with Javed, Inzi, and Yousuf. It is simply his temperament and being emotionally reactive. Lets accept his shortcomings and value his contributions for Pakistan cricket.

he is an emotional character but plays fair & square without any malice in his heart. he has always given his cent percent in the field for the country. he is one of the great of the game and deserve due respect. if he criticized the umpiring standard than i am pretty sure that it must be substandard and PCB, as usual, instead of investigating it decided to penalize him which is highly unfair.

PCB should investigate. All video are available and stop the umpire from supervising at least in the remaining matches of Pakistan Cup. The umpiring standards needs to be improved.

He should not be allowed to continue. PCB has to lay down the law. Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shezad after their recent behavior also need to be kicked out. But I doubt if this spineless PCB chairman is capable of taking any stern action.

As a player, nothing could be more frustrating than putting up with biased umpiring. All great sportsmen have been guilty to showing extreme reactions to this. Having said, let's respect YK for a great player he is, and close this episode after his apology!

It reflects how our so called superstars treat PCB, our domestic cricket and officials. YK would never have behaved like that on an international area. He is aware that being a so called superstar, he will get away with it in Pakistan. Besides, he is also a perpetual offender, behaving like that on many previous occasions. I fail to understand that with his discipline past record and arrogant behavior, why is he called a humble and down to earth person. He should appropriately be dealt with this time to set an example.
I wonder, what his mentor Rashid Latif has to say on this behavior.

This is all just due to ex-coach Waqar Younis. Isn't it !! He has failed to bring humbleness in our players specially to the senior players like Younis Khan and Boom Boom Afridi. What a mess created by you Waqar, now I know why all your praises for Misbah and criticism on Younis and Afridi. You even raised your fingers over the greatest of the greats and most talented Umer Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad, look how they have been performing with tons of centuries scored in domestic season.
