MINGORA: Awami National Party (ANP) local leader Syed Jamshaid Ali was shot dead by unidentified attackers in Manglore area of Swat on Sunday.

“One of the attackers met him and the other opened fire, killing him on the spot,” said Manglore Police Station SHO Fayaz Khan.

He said that law-enforcement agencies reached the area after the incident and launched a search operation.

Jamshaid Ali was an active peace activist and had served as nazim of the area thrice. He was also a member ANP’s district and provincial councils.

Reacting to the incident, ANP district president Sher Shah Khan said that Jamshaid Ali was an active peace volunteer and after a full-fledged military operation, occurrence of such an incident raised questions on the efficacy of the operation in the area.

He said that such incidents showed weakness of the provincial government and security forces in ensuring law and order in the area.

People in Swat expressed concern over the incident and demanded of the government and law-enforcement agencies to take effective measures and stop target killings in the area.
