‘Institutional failure’: IPC minister slams PCB for leaking Waqar’s report

The minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Hussain Pirzada has termed the leakage of Waqar Younis’ report as an institutional failure.

“I think leakage of the report is weakness of institutions. Principally speaking it should not have been revealed,” he told reporters present at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Thursday.

In the aftermath of the deplorable World T20 campaign, Waqar, the Pakistan head coach, had submitted his confidential report to the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan.

The report was leaked to the media subsequently, inducing a furious response from Waqar.

Waqar rang Pirzada at his office to apprise him about the factors behind Pakistan’s poor run in the ongoing global T20 tournament in India.

The head coach informed that he had submitted the report to the minister and expects it to be presented to the Prime Minister.

The former Pakistan captain, however, clarified that the report did not contain anything about rifts or grouping within Pakistan team.

Pirzada, who met Waqar earlier, said that the former fast bowler was a national hero, who had won several matches for the country.

The minister laid emphasis on showing respect to the cricketers, who according to him happen to be the ambassadors of the country.

“They go to other countries and play for Pakistan, showing how much resolute as a nation we are. Hence, we should respect them and enjoy watching their game.”

The minister said new talent should also be encouraged and should be given space.

Meanwhile, the press release by IPC Ministry states that the meeting between the two stressed on the need to raise the domestic cricket budget.

PCB is no different then other institutions of the country. Results of T20 are indicating that unqualified people are working in PCB and despite their best efforts they could not get the desired results. We have seen such failures several times but we continue to deceive ourselves. You can hire officials out of favor to them but that is not a favor to the nation. World class teams stem from fair and well qualified professionals and visionaries of that country. We will never succeed till the day we learn that lesson.

MS Dhoni is the best captain and confident captain. In pak coach has negative mindset for captain and players.. coach job is to make a bad player a good player if players are already like virat or Shane Warne there is no need of coach. Mr. Waqar wants to choose team of his own and even he don't like captain good thing is knowing waqar has negative feeling for Afridi still he us coach.. MS. Has got confidence of coach but here coach waqar wants to sit and ruin the team with his dictator attitude.

Waqar enough is enough you lost world cup odi 2015, Asian cup 2016, T20 w/cp what you did your attitude is worse what you what why you damaged careers of Younus Khan, Razzak, Shohaib akhtar, Yusuf, what going on you talking political position, not fit for Pakistan coach, we all say that there are corruption in PCB top to bottom now it is come out and you went to see sport minister, pls let find out reality and calm down this country do not need political coach we have tons of political leader.

Waqar doesn't want to leave quietly. He has won matches for Pakistan and was a national hero doesn't mean he can also be a successful coach. Being a star/hero player he could have easily fought for the right. Bottom line he failed as a coach. Waqar and Afridi had to develop a good off spinners after Ajmal and Hafeez ban but absolutely no success. As both of them admitted their mistake now should go...

Afridi considers himself bigger then the team. All the actions he has taken were to glorify his persona and not to put the team forward. He led like a failed captain who had no thought put into his actions. The buck starts from the top. If we keep selecting players like him to lead the team and cant find players like MSD, or ABD or Angelo Matthews whose level of the game rises when they step up to the plate when they are leading, then "hamara khudda hee hafiz". Shame on Afridi for thinking of himself only and not the team, and not taking any responsibility for the way the team has played. Maybe he needs a lesson from Sana Mirs girls.

Wit all due respect to the haters of Waqar Younis who feel that only Waqar is the reason behind every bad happening in Pakistan Cricket, I just want to know the performances of last coaches specially the foreign coaches Dave watmore and late bob woolmer.I think what is clearly missing here is the history and emotional Pakistani fans have seriously been into short term memory loss. I am following Waqar since day one of his coaching with most of his statements on record and he has been pointing out each and every discrepancy from day one, in fact his only and only guilt is that he had been working with the same setup from years compromising over his own identified problems. I remember in his last tenure every one was praising him for his coaching and Pakistan was on a rise but with the conflict between Lala and him people along with board went with Lala and he had to step down. He want to keep himself clean from biased allegations but people here are not in a mood to listen him. So sad.
