Sindh govt spending Rs25m on Bhutto's anniversary

KARACHI: Sindh government is spending Rs25 million on Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's death anniversary, according to a document obtained by DawnNews on Monday.

The notification issued by Finance Department says that a sum of Rs25 million rupees has been approved for expenditure about to be incurred on 37th death anniversary of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on April 4th, 2016.

The PPP-led provincial government has provided this sum of money to Larkana's district administration for observing the 'socialist' leader's death anniversary.

The left leaning politician and founder of PPP, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged on April 4, 1979 in the Rawalpindi district jail.

Bhutto was charged with conspiring with the FSF officials to assassinate former National Assembly member Ahmad Rasa Kasuri. But in the shooting on Mr Kasuris car in Lahore on the night of Nov 10, 1974, Mr Kasuri escaped unhurt while his father, Nawab Mohammad Ahmad Khan, was killed.

Back in 2013, Sindh government came under criticism for spending Rs250m for Sindh Festival, an event incorporating various cultural programs including Mushairas, a film festival, fashion shows and music nights.

Horrendous! Our money being spent for Bhutto Zinda Hai..how absurd. There are no laws in this Islamic Republic of Pakistan to safeguard public money. Roads are dilapidated all over Sindh, no water for agriculture in many districts, water scarcity and disease in Thar; no civil works for betterment of cities...lagge raho PPPlio.

What a shame ! This tax payers money would be better spent in Thar ,where poor children are dying of hunger.I am sure Bilawal Zardari will take notice of this immediately and stop this outrageous plan by the Sindh government.Simply unbelievable !! Good enough to spend 25 millions on Bahtto anniversary but why not spend on people who need economic assistance, the destitutes and the needy? Our thought process has to change. Public and Pakistan should be first when it comes to help or spending money for charity.

Another twist to my previous comment. We should make every effort to celebrate ZAB's anniversary.He was the best politician ever, in Islamic world.His achievement are second to none.We as the citizen of Pakistan owe him a sincere gratitude by celebrating his life.Our Politicians waste billions in corruption and 25 million is a short change in the big scheme of things.However as ZAB is resting in peace, and if asked he would definitely have liked this money to be spent on sidqa Jaria. So,please do the right thing and give the money to charity.
