PESHAWAR: The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunhwa (TCKP) and culture department have launched a project “Rang De Peshawar” to add colour to the dusty walls of Peshawar.

Walls all around the city which were an eyesore earlier would be painted to create a pleasant and colourful environment, said a press release issued here on Thursday.

The project was formally inaugurated on Thursday wherein officials of TCKP and culture department were present. Under the “Rang De Peshawar” project, the walls from Phase-III, Hayatabad to Town Chowk would be painted and coloured with various designs and paintings.

Famous artists, graphic designers, painters and civil society members, students and teachers of the province would take part in the event, said the press release. It would be a week-long activity.

Various designs to be painted on the walls in Peshawar have been approved by a selection committee. The students of fine arts and experts have prepared these designs.

The selection committee included famous artists, designers, architects and professionals from the province. The committee had selected the designs through a consensus.

During the first phase of the “Rang De Peshawar” initiative, 10 walls would be painted while in the second phase most of the walls in the city would be covered.

The project would be extended to the rest of the province in the third phase.

Speaking on the occasion, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, the managing director of TCKP, said that the project was part of the beautification of the city. He said that students had been involved in the project to encourage them to do something for their city and polish their talent as well.

Mr Khan said that walls in the area from Phase-III Chowk near Hayatabad to University Town would be painted within a week.
