SHANGLA: The district administration has suspended services of five health workers for their refusal to take part in the anti-polio campaign, which was conducted in Shangla from Jan 11 to 14.

Additional deputy commissioner Farhatullah Marwat issued suspension orders of the DHQ hospital’s OT attendant Ismail Khan, lady health workers Parveen, Bakht Zai and Shabana and class-IV employee Sher Rehman.

EPI district coordinator Dr Wajid told Dawn on Wednesday that the district administration had constituted a committee to probe the matter. He said that the probe was conducted by additional assistant commissioner, Alpuri, Abdul Kabir, which found that the five health workers had refused to perform duty during the anti-polio drive.

COMPLAINT: Some of the affected people of Oct 26 earthquake here have complained that the local revenue officials are demanding bribes from them for delivery of compensation cheques.

A group of residents of Dunai Karoa told a press conference in Bisham that their houses were destroyed in the earthquake and during survey their names were included in the affected people.

Hakim, a local resident, alleged that a bank manager and patwari (revenue official) were involved in cashing his cheque (number 04709822). He claimed that later the manager offered him just Rs20,000 instead of his compensation amount of Rs200,000.

Mr Hakim said that he had been visiting the offices of deputy commissioner and tehsil administration daily, but they were using delaying tactics. He urged the quarters concerned to probe the matter and take action against those found involved in the fraud. He threatened to commit self-immolation if the compensation amount released by the government was not paid to him for construction of his house.
