KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead in an ‘encounter’ following the killing of a fruit seller during a mugging attempt in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday evening, police said.

They said the two suspects tried to snatch cash and other valuables from Ayaz Ajmal, aged about 30, in Block 2 near Rab Medical Centre.

The suspects opened fire on him when he resisted them, said Gulshan SP Dr Fahad Ahmed.

A police van, which was in the vicinity, rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots. In the ensuing encounter, both suspects were killed and weapons were seized from them, claimed the officer.

Ajmal who sustained bullet wounds in the neck died during treatment, said SP Ahmed. Later on his body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination where he was identified.
