ISLAMABAD: Iran is working on many infrastructure development projects after the lifting of international sanctions, Tehran’s Ambassador to Islamabad Mehdi Honardoost said on Thursday, urging Pakistan’s private sector to play its role in boosting bilateral trade.

Speaking at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), the envoy said that immense potential existed to enhance trade in many areas. “The Iran-Afghanistan trade is over $2 billion while the Pakistan-Iran trade is only $270m, which is very low despite huge potential,” he added.

Many European companies were visiting Iran to explore business, he said, adding that the ICCI should take a delegation to Tehran to explore opportunities, for which the Iranian embassy would extend all possible cooperation. He said Iran could supply cheapest gas and electricity to Pakistan and both countries were already working on some power projects.
