GWADAR: An official of the Oxford University Press called on the Turbat University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, and discussed with him matters related to promotion of higher education and research as well as promotion of library and book reading culture among students.

Officials of the university and the publishing group agreed to explore possibilities for cooperation to enhance learning and innovation.

The vice chancellor told the visiting OUP regional sales director about the ongoing and planned educational and research activities and development projects at the university.

“Hundreds of students are studying at the university and every possible opportunity and facility of acquiring higher education in nine departments is being provided to them apart from two libraries with more than 12,000 books,” Dr Sabir said.

He said the university also arranged programmes and events to promote reading habit among students.

The OUP official praised the achievements made by the university over the past two years.

Meanwhile, Prof Timothy Beach of the University of Texas gave an online lecture at the Turbat University by video link from the Comsats (Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South) Institute of Information Technology.

He talked about long-term climate system changes and their impact on agriculture and water sustainability and vulnerability with special reference to countries like Pakistan. The lecture was attended by faculty members, students and administrative staff.
