Citizens face hours-long traffic jam on Karachi roads

KARACHI: Traffic remained jammed on various thoroughfares in the metropolis Tuesday evening, including busy arteries such as the Shahrah-i-Faisal, M. A. Jinnah Road, Baloch Expressway and Korangi Road, making life miserable for commuters.

Motorists and commuters in public transport vehicles remained stuck for hours while some took to social media to express their anger.

"The major reason for the hours long jam was the protest at Mehmoodabad against gas outage. The protesters blocked roads and marched till Qayyumabad and Baloch Colony," traffic police's social media cell told Dawn.com.

Traffic around Defence Housing Authority also faced problems due to the jams on Korangi Road, frustrated commuters complained on social media.

Citizens were advised to contact Karachi Traffic Police's social media cell by dialing 1915 & 99216355-56 to get any help, advice and updates regarding the traffic situation.

Karachi is not being given any importance by Federal or Sind Provincial governments. Karachi is an orphan city now under the current rulers.

Thank your lucky stars for smart phones. Shop at home with them. Use them for business to make sales calls, send e-mails or contact the office while stuck in traffic. For servicemen and deliverymen it is not so good. Travel between 4 am and 7 am. Then 7 pm to 10 pm.

@Qaisar Sindh has a budget of 700Billion per year. Plus they can generate more money through taxes if they wanted to. There is plenty of money to do things. What is missing is the will to do anything.

@Zafar: What is missing with the governance is that city is ruled by aliens. The word orphan seems very appropriate when it comes to governing the city as those in the provincial govt has no political stakes and hence no interest in resolving the city. City should be rules by its own people. This is the standard practice adopted all over the world and has been proven successful. But our 'Champions of Democracy' refuse to learn from developed nations. Who cares for the suffering of masses *ouch*, as long as these democratic masters have a way to plunder public wealth.

Thanks to the criminal indifference of provincial and central government Karachi has no mass transit system and the top of it there is a total collapse of governance at every level. All the roads are filled with potholes that have made the lives of commuters miserable. Our Chief Minister and local bodies minister are either asleep or have no interest in the plight of the people of this city.

A neglected city prejudiced by the rural Sindh including the traffic police from rural Sindh is careless,irresponsible,illiterate to control the traffic,the people of Karachi are frustrated and disgusted by the daily traffic mishandled-ness. Where is JI,PTI,and PML(N) ,plz extend help to Karachi,the daily routine and business is sinking day by day,remember Karachi is a commercial capital of Pakistan,and Pakistan is most sacred stakeholder of Karachi.

nothing will change.... those who got powers in Sindh have no vote bank in Karachi (unlike in Lahore , where PML-N got all the seats...so they are delivering).... So this is all due to our sick political system!!!
