QUETTA: Hundreds of people, including councillors and representatives of Hub and Gadani union councils, held a demonstration in Hub town on Thursday in protest against plans to install coal-based power plants in the area.

They paraded roads in the town and gathered in front of Hubco Power Company, which is to install the coal-based plants.

Speakers condemned the authorities concerned for allowing the power company to install the coal-based plants.

They said the project, if executed, would pollute the environment and endanger the ecology of Hub and Lasbela district and destroy the marine life near Gadani, Sonmiani and Daam bundar.

They said that even Karachi would not be spared from the thick smoke to be emitted from these plants. They urged the government to revisit its decision.
