Son of Pakistani Consulate worker arrested on NY rape charge

NEW YORK: Prosecutors say the adult son of a community welfare worker at the Pakistan Consulate in New York City has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl.

Mehmood Rahimoon, 20, was arraigned early Thursday on charges of rape, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. In the United States, children of that age cannot legally consent to sex with an adult.

Authorities say the two met on Whisper, an app where users post anonymous messages. They say Rahimoon and the girl had met three times — the final time Dec 1 at a Bronx motel.

Rahimoon was arrested after the girl's father learned of the encounters.

Rahimoon's attorney promised a "total defence".

His father, Muhammad Rahimoon, told the Daily News that the allegations are fabricated and his son is a good person.

Recently our counsel general in Los Angeles was called back or transferred due to community complain of his parties and now the son only 20 yr. old of our another counsel is being arraigned for rape. If this incident is even consensual by the girl still as she is only 13 the 20 yr old already confessed will not escape a very hard punishment. Pathetic performance of up bringing by our counsel and worst performance of representing the country by both of the counsel .

Apart from legal implications, it seems a matter of consensual sex. .every parent tries to defend his or her child, however, it takes moral courage to admit the truth. .

This shows the consequences of living in western society leaving our values and religious obligations. If his parents would have fostered him in a clean and decent environment he would not have committed this sin and crime. Both parents would be accounted for their negligence. All parents living in western culture must teach lessons to their children as how to live a neat, clean and decent lives.

I suggest a severe punishment for this boy because he carries the burden of Pakistan and being a Muslim we should not indulge in these activities. Specially his Parents should have brought him up in a good manner. The girl's father would have been only furious because she was under 18 and the guy was Pakistani.

how can he be good when he met up with a minor girl three times - it is implied he had sex with the child on the three occasions. Sex minor is rape, consensual or non-consensual does not matter. the child is partner in the crime however she would be absolved of any burden owing to her age.

The son is always a good person in the eyes of parents. Now it is up to the Courts to determine how good a person Rahimoon was based on the evidence produced by the prosecution. Pakistani human resource exports are earning name and fame for the country on a scale few others can compete with.

The parents of the guilty should be punished and why not.So many criminals try to get away citing their young age.A strict law should be enacted in Asian countries so that if criminal is young or minor their parents or guardian should be punished.

It could be both the ways...Rahimoon could be guilty and it could also be a set up to make money...In America in these matters justice is done...a fair trial will help... It will not be like the Jatoi case in Karachi and Kanju case in Lahore...

This is what happens when you dont keep an eye on your children in this day and age in Western countries. From ISIS recruiters to infatuation with opposite sex to drugs or other crimes. If parents dont guard against this then they can only blame themselves.

Why do such apps even exist where there is a possibility of under age children accessing apps and despicable content. Stringent rules should be enacted to prevent any minor from suffering this horror, including imposing heavy penalties over the different websites.

@Janjua do you even know what consensual sex is?!? A person of sane mind and legal age can consent to having sex. A 13-year-old is not an age of consent. They can easily be manipulated to believe that they are equal participants in this act. If a 13-year-old wants to drink alcohol, will you allow him or her? Its the child's consent. The adult commits the crime knowing that the child is only 13 and not of legal age.

States like Wisconsin, Iowa and many others have a mandatory 35 years of sentence for having sex with a minor under the age of consent. Most states have age consent of 15+.

They should not keep their families with them, because family members get exposed to corrupt culture specially in West. Pakistani consulate member's son is victim of the corrupt culture and may be he was unaware of the consequences of having any sexual relation with 13 year old minor girl in Western countries.

Regardless of anything, a 20 year-old has absolutely no business meeting a 13 year-old online and then to go on and meet in person. The motives are suspect to begin with. I believe he is guilty!

@NASR 20 years old in many countries is considered to be a young adult and depending other aspects in this case the son could well escape from severe punishment. As regards upbringing, a 20 years old, regardless of his background, can be easily lured into behaviour of this nature. Some thirteen year old girls may look physically mature and a man falling in relationship will not necessarily check out on their real age. Clearly on the basis of her age she is a child and the crime being child sexual abuse he faces prospect of imprisonment.

@Frankenstein Where as no one should have problem in knowing that this was a crime, the severity of punishment could be influenced by his relatively young age I guess. What he will also need is good counselling as part of punishment to minimise his tendency to further harm anyone. I doubt it would be appropriate to blame his parents unless there was evidence of their complicity. Environment does have its influence but being a decent and responsible parents does not guarantee that your offspring will never be vulnerable to some criminal activity. What about influence of school or college considering our children spend significant time in education. Should the teachers be penalised?

Since Bhutto and his quota system, Mediocrity has breed mediocrity. This fact becomes very evident when you visit any Pakistani embassy/consulate overseas or any government department/corporation in Pakistan. The quality and education of these people is so low they would not find a janitor's job. But they are relatives/friends of our political parties/bureaucracy and to bring shame to Pakistan. This is not the first or the last incident.

More pathetic is he is the son Community Worker. People of Consul should be more cautious as they are representative of a country and even one small fault may in bring bad name to the entire country. Underage adultery is not uncommon in US. But the profile of the accused was enough to made this as headline. One after another incidents bringing bad name for the country. Like all other country Pakistan should also work hard for improving its image globally. Problem is that the Consulate officials don’t take-up their job seriously and they are not accountable. They should be punished with postings in remote areas if they fail doing their job, others will fall in line.

@Shahid In fairness of things,consent sex is accepted in law and culture of the west.We Pakistanis always start bashing our countrymen,whenever we get a chance.Let the court decide the fate of the accused son and there can be a possibility that the girl's appearance may be of an adult 16-18 years and not 13 years and that might be hidden from the accused.The proof is that her 13 years age was not noticed by the motel staff when registering them.So please keep cool and my sympathies with the father of the son who got trapped in vicious circle.
