LAHORE: Mohammad Rehman dethroned Ghazanfar Mehmood with an impeccable final-round performance to win the fifth Chief of Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club here on Sunday.

Holding a six-point lead over Ghazanfar and Zohaib Asif going into the final day, Rehman of Royal Palm shot a 79 for a three-day aggregate of 223 to finish two strokes ahead of his two closest challengers.

Karachi’s Zohaib made a herculean effort to prevent Rehman’s dash to victory but his efforts proved futile although he pipped defending champion Ghazanfar of Garden City Club to second spot with both finishing on 225.

Saleem Raza of Gujranwala Golf Club took the net honours with 214, ahead of Ameer Khawar Khawaja of Sialkot Golf Club (217).

The invitational match trophy was won by Commodore Khalid Amin with a gross score of 39 while Rear Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi’s 32 saw him win the net event. Commodore Saad Bin Jabbar won the longest drive prize and Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Tariq won the nearest to pin prize.

Rimsha Ejaz of Margalla Golf Club Islamabad won the ladies event with a gross score of 85 ahead of Lahore Gymkhana’s Maryama Khan (86) and Royal Palm’s Anna James Gill (91).

In the juniors’ section, Ali Anish Rehman of Gujranwala Golf Club took the title with 75 — ahead of Rao Muhammad Hassan and Rao Muhammad Haris.
