ICMAP signs MoU for RDI

KARACHI: The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) with IBA-Karachi; Applied Economics and Research Centre (AERC), University of Karachi and DHA Suffa University on Thursday, said a press release.

Nestlé’s clean water facility

LAHORE: Nestlé SA General Manager and Nestlé Waters Global CEO Marco Settembri on Friday inaugurated a clean drinking water facility near its Sheikhupura factory, said a press release.

An agreement was also signed between Nestlé and WWF-Pakistan to implement sustainability practices and Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) standards at its Islamabad factory.

Rio Tinto approves $1.9bn bauxite project

SYDNEY: Mining giant Rio Tinto on Friday announced approval of a US$1.9-billion bauxite project in Australia to better meet growing demand from China.

The Amrun project will involve the construction of a bauxite mine and associated processing and port facilities on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland state’s far north.—AFP

Microsoft’s Gates to start clean tech initiative

NEW YORK: Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates will launch a multi-billion-dollar clean energy research and development initiative with heads of state on Monday, the opening day of the UN climate change summit in Paris, the French government said Friday.

Gates and a group of developing and developed countries will launch the Clean Tech Initiative, in which countries will commit to doubling their clean energy technology research and development budgets by 2020 and private investors will boost their own investments in the sector.
