Shiv Sena announces INR100,000 reward for 'slapping Aamir Khan'

LUDHIANA: In a troubling development, the Punjab chapter of Indian far-right political group Shiv Sena announced a cash reward of INR 100,000 for "anyone who slaps" Bollywood actor Aamir Khan over his recent remarks on 'intolerance' in India, said a report published on the Hindustan Times.
The bizarre announcement was made during a protest staged by Shiv Sena activists outside a hotel where Aamir Khan is staying for shooting his upcoming movie 'Dangal'.

During the protest, Shiv Sena activists used derogatory language against the actor and burnt his photographs.
The report quoted Shiv Sena Punjab chairman Rajeev Tandon, who was leading the protesters, as saying: “Any person who slaps Aamir Khan would be rewarded Rs1 lakh (INR 100,000) by our organisation. This is important because no one living in our country should dare to say anything against India.”
“Anyone from the hotel staff to the crew can slap him and take the reward,” he was quoted as saying.
Aamir Khan's security was beefed up following the announcement by the Shiv Sena leader. The Hindustan Times quoted Ludhiana assistant commissioner of police Rupinder Kaur Saran as saying that a contingent of police had been deployed where the actor was staying, which was keeping a "close watch" on the situation.
Aamir Khan on Monday said that he has been "alarmed and shaken" by the number of incidents related to extremism in India.
The actor had to face the music for his remarks from Shiv Sena, with a senior leader of the hardline outfit saying Aamir should "go to Pakistan" if "he does not want to stay here."
He also faced a backlash on social media with Indian Twitter users criticising his statements in large numbers.
Aamir's Bollywood industry colleagues also chose sides on the issue with many top names slamming the actor for his remarks, directly or indirectly.
Later on Tuesday, a sedition case was filed against the popular actor in Kanpur for his "intolerant" and "anti-national" statement.
In response to the criticism, Aamir in a statement said he stands by his comments, adding that "neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country,"

I am really surprised by Indian people responding so idiotically over a statement passed by Amir Khan that seems to be right in context. He is not blaming India as a country nor any government but his main concern is the rise of intolerance in the society as a whole. He and too many others are sensing intolerance and rightly pointing towards it. Is there any harm in it if Indian society looks around itself, analyze and took measures to come out of it. Shiv Sena though doesn't represent majority of India but silence from the majority of Indians over their wrong deeds and cursing the one who is pointing out these discrepancies give a general impression of intolerance to this world. I condemn Shiv Sena from the core my Heart and stand by Amir Khan and all others who want India to be more secure and tolerant than it is now.

@Bravo : Believe me Friend, Saner people are not against Amir nor even to any Pakistani actor/ actress working in India If I were a Pakistani I would not think different from you because of two major factors one is obviously media and the other is Shiv Sena who are distorting face of a Secular India. In general, you find more tolerance and acceptance in India than intolerance which seems on a rise due to few incidents that would not happen if taken care of timely. Hope you remember the massive campaign when Indians stood against the Brutal rape case of a college girl, our heart goes down with the incidents like APS in Pakistan too. I wish people from Pakistan won't give much importance to over reactions of few confused Indians making remarks at this platform and unintentionally proving the point raised by Amir Khan and other fellow indians.

What Shiv Sena is doing is of course stupid, but what Amir Khan did by putting himself in the limelight and literally inviting this was equally stupid as well. I cannot fathom what prompted Amir Khan to make the statements he made, but we all know that he was never in any kind of imminent danger. Frankly, what he did was not a very prudent thing to do.

I have visited India in 2008 and people were very friendly and tolerant but what is going on these days in India is going to change the perspective of India and how people will think in future. The same started in Pakistan in 70's and has changed our culture and everything. We used to have musics, theaters, co -education and difference of believe without any dispute. Those who are pointing out this issue are indeed preventing India from destruction. If any one has any doubt that everything is going good, google Obama remarks about religious intolerance in India.

Both statements by Aamir Khan and Shiv Sena are political. Aamir Khan instead of focusing on films shouldn't have given political statements supporting the congress party. If Aamir wants to join politics let him join the congress party and make such statements then people wouldn't take his statements so seriously This issue will die down in few days time and things will come back to normal. I would be surprised if the Indian Punjab Shiv Sena has IR100,000. Shiv Sena is an extreme right organisation In Maharashtra. Punjabis are not particularly fond of it. Indeed, the reverse is likely to be true. Most Punjabi Hindus either support Congress or the BJP. The latter is, of course, allied to the Sikh Akali Dal Party.

after 25 years serving in the film industry though he married two hindu ladies to please the bosses, but yet facing the tyranny of being a Muslim.
115 years back in 1900 Sir Syed Ahmed advised about same Hindus can never live with Muslims. so let be it.

Correction - None was intolerant of Aamir Khan during his three decades of film career. He was loved and respected for his sober attitude and high quality movies he made. It is his recent statement that has provoked public outrage against him. This doesn't mean that Shiv Sena's crazy reward is justified.

Aamir Khan is probably India's most intelligent film maker. His ideas make people think about improving society, he addresses real problems and shortcomings which should be addressed in India. He does not simply make movies like Salman or Shahrukh where the hero is beating up 20 villians at the same time.
Is there no one to support Aamir Khan in a scenario like this ? Where are all his fans ?
And cant anyone put a leash on Shiv Sena, I thought Pakistan was bad but this is just ridiculous.

I am hugely saddened by this. I have always said positive things about India and I still admire the way India has progressed in the last 25 years. However, someone in the largest democracy in the world is asking to slap one of the top film stars, who is respected around the world is unbelievable. I bet Indians will stand up against this. Shiv Sena just proved Amir Khan right. Rising intolerance will lead to internal strife in India. And if Modi starts taking sides, this will not be good for economic stability in India. The same investors that are running to India today, will run away even faster, if they feel their investments may be jeopardized. Modi should realize that being the PM of the world`s largest democracy is not same as being the CM of a province, no matter how successful. We are yet to see Modi`s magic at national level. At least he has dazzled the world leaders.

The underlying grudge is to humiliate anyone who displays dissent about the current pathetic situation vis-a-vis the minorities, especially Muslims. How secular is India? No more! The subject of INTOLERANCE has hit right direction with the celebrities showing their apprehensions in a very clear manner (the episode of Award-vapasi) and, thereby, the true face of India is being exposed for the world to see.

The Center and the relevant state should immediately have an arrest warrant issued for the person who announced such reward. Otherwise they are not capable of governing India. I like Modi but not at the cost of ignoring Indian constitution. While Khan has all the right to free speech, none have the right to incite riots. Khan should be protected if the Center is to maintain its credibility. Shiv Sena is not the administering body in India.
